Strong for Life

Did you know that the longest running class on my timetable is actually strength training?

I started with Bums, Tums & Wobbly Bits at a school in Reddish once a week.  Now there are multiple ways on my timetable to get stronger - Total Body Tone, Kettlebell circuits, Strength and Cardio, Low Impact HIIT and Pilates!

The advice is that you do two strength workouts a week - and the benefits go far beyond just getting stronger:

💪 builds functional strength
💪 improves bone health

The Foot and the Brain

One of the trainings I did recently had this quote in it, which I loved

"Learn how to see.  Realise that everything connects to everything else." Leonardo da Vinci

And these connections are often surprising

I remember having a really sore back one day when I was off to do the school run.

On my way there I trod really hard on a bump in the pavement and it shot pain up my body briefly

And then my back pain was gone!!

The connection of the foot to the core is one of my favourite things I …

Can squats help your heart?

Exercise is great for heart health, but is it only cardio-type workouts that make a difference?

Healthy Hearts - and how to get them

February is Heart Month, so I've been focusing a little bit on cardiovascular exercise recently

  • quit smoking
  • limit alcohol intake
  • manage stress
  • prioritise sleep
  • move more often - not just exercise but throughout your day
  • stay hydrated

The thing I love about exercise is that it…

Keeping going when the pain is no longer there

Our health is one of those weird things that we don't really think about until something isn't working properly or we are in pain

I think why I didn't enjoy pregnancy the first time round was because I expected things to work/feel as they always did, and that definitely wasn't true anymore!  It's also why peri-menopause is a challenge...

I certainly never considered my pelvic floor until after having my first baby/prolapse

And when I injured my back, the constant pain impacted everything I di…

I got trolled

I've been posting a lot on Facebook recently as I'm trying to raise my profile a bit

And it's obviously working as I'm reaching more people

But with that come people who aren't really a good fit for what I do

This meant that last week I got trolled on one of my videos

It was just a simple video - showing hip circles as a way to ease out your back and hips after sitting for a while

So nothing massively fitness about it and nothing controversial

But this bloke said that if I lost some fat t…

Is is good to go barefoot?

Pregnancy Blog Banners (1)

I had a Balinese-inspired massage last week and the beginning of the ritual was to put a heated eye mask on

I then enjoyed being massaged with small and large bamboo sticks as well as with hands.

Then the time came to roll over...

Weirdly, having an eye mask on made it really difficult for me to turn!

That small dulling of one of my senses affected the rest of my body, especially my proprioception - where I was in space.  In the end I had to lift it off my eyes so that I felt safe to move!…
